Skippers in action

Depending on date and format, experienced skippers from the ONBOAT environment accompany the trip. The focus is calm seamanship, clear communication and safe decisions on board.

Practical context

For couples, solo travellers and small groups who want to try sailing or leave everyday life behind for a few days. Ideal when a full charter week is too long and a day trip feels too short. ONBOAT personally organises yacht, skipper, framework and expectations; the route remains weather-based and sensible instead of artificially guaranteed.

ONBOAT attitude

Related orientation: Sailing Holidays Adriatic offer more time for legs, bays and the cruising area. Skipper Training Adriatic is the right format for harbour manoeuvres, crew leadership and charter confidence. For day guests, Grado day sailing trip, Trieste day sailing trip and the Sunset Cruise are clearer choices.

Berth-charter authority

Adriatic sailing weekend: short escape, real life aboard and clear all-in value

More depth for guests looking for a long weekend on the water: life aboard, route, weather, swimming stops, small crew, all-in services and Monfalcone as starting point.

Schedule & route

What happens during a typical weekend?

The actual schedule depends on weather, crew and season. Typical elements are arrival, safety briefing, getting to know the yacht, a first short leg, shared life aboard and a relaxed trip in the Gulf of Trieste.

Depending on conditions, routes towards Trieste, Miramare, Grado, Duino or the Slovenian coast are possible. Sometimes less distance is better because it leaves more time for swimming, going ashore or relaxed sailing.

The route is not sold as a fixed promise. It is chosen according to the weather. That is honest sailing.

  • Monfalcone as starting point
  • Trieste, Miramare, Grado depending on weather
  • route chosen safely and sensibly

All-in & clarity

What does all-in mean for the sailing weekend?

For ONBOAT, all-in means that the essential services are transparently included: yacht, skipper, accommodation aboard, normal harbour fees, final cleaning, gas, water and the agreed basic board cash.

Additional personal expenses remain personal: travel, restaurants, special drinks, individual shore activities or special requests.

So you know what you are asking for before you enquire: no hidden board-cash surprises, but a clear frame.

  • yacht and skipper included
  • accommodation aboard included
  • clear costs instead of board-cash fog

Sailing area

Monfalcone and the Gulf of Trieste as a weekend sailing area

Monfalcone is particularly practical for a sailing weekend. The marina is easy to reach, the sailing area begins right outside the harbour and short legs are enough to really arrive on the water.

The Gulf of Trieste offers a fine mix of coast, city views, harbours, bays and real sailing atmosphere. With suitable weather, Grado, Miramare or the Slovenian coast may also become part of the plan.

The area allows flexible decisions. For a weekend, that matters more than collecting as many nautical miles as possible.

  • short distance into the sailing area
  • easy to reach from D/A/IT/SI
  • flexible with weather and crew

More than boating

Why the weekend sells — without overwhelming guests

The sailing weekend should create appetite for the sea, not stress. That is why the group stays small, the schedule personal and the communication clear.

You get a real yacht, real life aboard and an experienced skipper, but no artificial performance pressure. That makes the format especially accessible.

For ONBOAT, the sailing weekend is an important entry product: it shows competence, trust and atmosphere within just a few days.

  • low barrier to entry
  • strong sales format
  • good bridge to longer trips

FAQ

Practical answers sorted by topic. Open a section and then the individual question.

General questions Booking, weather, arrival, costs and life on board.
Do I need sailing experience?

No. Many ONBOAT experiences are suitable without previous sailing knowledge. You may help actively if you like, or simply enjoy being a guest.

Can I join alone?

Yes. Solo travellers are welcome. Before confirmation we check whether date, crew size and cabin situation fit well.

Can I book as a couple or with friends?

Yes. You can request individual berths, cabins or, depending on the offer, the whole yacht exclusively.

How large are the groups?

ONBOAT deliberately works with small groups. This leaves room for questions, safety, personal guidance and real life on board.

What does all-in mean?

All-in means that the main services are transparently included. Depending on the offer this may include yacht, skipper, accommodation on board, basic board cash, normal harbour fees, gas, water and final cleaning.

Which additional costs may occur?

Additional costs are mainly personal expenses: travel, restaurants, special shore visits, individual drinks or special wishes. Unusual harbour fees or weather-related changes are discussed personally.

How does a request work?

You send a request. We personally check date, crew size, weather window, cabins and framework and reply with a suitable proposal.

When is a booking binding?

A booking becomes binding only after personal confirmation by ONBOAT and according to the agreed booking and payment conditions.

Do I have to pay immediately?

No. First we check whether the offer really fits. After that you receive the next steps transparently.

What happens in bad weather?

Safety comes before the programme. Route, timing or contents may be adjusted. If leaving harbour responsibly is not sensible, we decide calmly and transparently.

Who decides route and programme?

The final decision lies with the responsible skipper. Crew wishes are considered, but weather, safety and seamanship come first.

How do I get to Monfalcone?

Monfalcone can be reached by car, train and via the airports of Trieste, Venice or Treviso. Details are coordinated according to the date.

Are there parking options?

There are parking options in and around the marina depending on season. Before arrival we provide suitable guidance.

What should I bring?

Bring a soft travel bag instead of a hard suitcase, non-slip shoes, weatherproof clothing, sun protection, personal medication and what you really need for a few days on board.

What is a typical day on board like?

After weather check and short briefing there is sailing, training or passage, breaks, harbour or anchorage and a shared end of the day.

Is there Wi-Fi or power on board?

Power is available on board, but not unlimited like at home. Wi-Fi depends on mobile reception. For work or longer use we clarify needs beforehand.

What happens in case of illness?

Please inform us as early as possible. Depending on booking status, date and conditions we check fair options.

Can dates be postponed?

Sometimes yes, but not automatically. Yacht, crew, weather window and other bookings must fit together.

Are children or teenagers possible?

Yes, depending on format, age, weather, crew and responsibility situation. We check such requests especially carefully.

Why is every request checked personally?

Because weather, crew, experience, cabins, safety and expectations must fit together. ONBOAT is not a mass booking system.

Sailing weekend A short escape on the water from Monfalcone.
Is the sailing weekend more holiday or training?

It is mainly a short escape on the water. If you want, you can take part and learn, but it is not an exam course or performance training.

Which destinations are realistic during a weekend?

Depending on weather, short destinations around Monfalcone, Trieste, Grado, the lagoon or the Slovenian coast are realistic.

Are swimming stops possible?

Yes, if weather, temperature and route allow it. Swimming stops are possible, but never more important than safety and sensible timing.

Is it also suitable for beginners?

Yes. The format is deliberately accessible and explains life aboard, procedures and nautical terms calmly and practically.

How much sailing experience do I need for a sailing weekend?

None. The format is deliberately accessible. You may help actively, or simply remain a guest aboard.

Which destinations are realistic?

Depending on weather and crew, Trieste, Miramare, Grado, Duino or short legs in the Gulf of Trieste are realistic.

Is the weekend more training or holiday?

It is mainly a short sailing holiday. Practice happens naturally, but it is not an exam or performance course.

Why is the route not guaranteed exactly?
